3 Reasons You Should Try a Dry Hair Cut

Have you tried a dry hair cut yet? It’s a new cutting technique that’s becoming very popular in today’s high-end salons. As the name implies, it’s a cut that is performed on dry hair, before shampooing.

With a dry cut, every piece of hair is being cut individually. This means you get a more precise cut, which is ideal for certain hair types and styles.

If you’re trying to figure out if a dry hair cut is right for you, here’s what you need to know:

  1. When your hair is wet, it’s looks longer because it’s being weighed down by water. As your hair dries, it will seem to shrink slightly. If you’ve ever cut your bangs while wet, you probably know what we’re talking about! A dry cut ensures that you won’t have any lengthy surprises. When you ask your stylist to trim off just one inch, it will really be one inch.
  2. With a dry cut, your stylist can see the shape of your hair as they cut it. This means it’s a great technique for clients with thick and curly hair, as well as clients with lots of layers. Curls have their own pattern, which is difficult to see when the hair is wet. With a dry cut, the stylist can see the curl pattern, how the hair moves, and how it naturally falls. A dry cut can be more precise and can really enhance the natural features of a client’s hair.
  3. This may surprise you, but a dry cut will actually cause less damage to your hair. When your hair is wet, it’s elastic, which makes it easier for it to split and fray. When your hair is dry, you’ll get a clean cut at the ends. This also helps the cut last longer, so you can wait longer between visits to the salon.

A dry cut does take longer than a traditional cut (about 45 minutes), so it can cost more. If you’re interested in going to cosmetology school and working as a licensed stylist, dry cutting can be a great technique to learn and offer to your clients!
