Top Hair & Makeup Trends From Fashion Week
When the models hit the runway for Spring Fashion Week 2014, we not only got a glimpse of which trends from fashion week will be popular next season, we also got a sneak peek at the newest hair and makeup styles everyone will soon be rocking! Fashion Week is legendary for predicting the top beauty trends year after year.
Here are the top trends we saw all over the runway this year, with helpful tips on how to wear each one:
Blue Liner – The cat eye was present on the catwalk this year, but this time with a refreshing pop of color. Many models were sporting blue eyeliner, which ranged from turquoise green to electric blue. The key to this trend is to wear the liner on only the top or bottom lid, but not both. The blue liner helps make your eyes look extra bright and sparkling!
Orange Lips – It seems orange is the “It” shade of lipstick for Spring/Summer 2014. The shade looks good on most skin tones, especially darker and olive complexions. If you have a paler skin tone, try a softer coral tone so it doesn’t wash you out. After you apply the orange lipstick, dust a loose powder over your lips to give it a finished matte look.
Slicked Back Hair – One of the biggest hair trends at Fashion Week this year was the wet, slicked back look. To wear this trend, apply a generous amount of mousse or gel to your hair while it’s still wet. Next, part the hair down the middle. You can either fasten the hair into a low ponytail at the nape of your neck, or blow dry the ends, pin straight and tuck behind your ears. Then, add a finishing spray to make sure your locks stay extra shiny.
Choppy Bobs – This classic cut got an edgy new twist at this year’s Fashion Week. The new bob is a lot different from the one we’re used to seeing. It’s unstructured, choppy, and much more punk rock. This year’s bob is an asymmetrical cut that should be worn with straight fringe. Adding wax to the ends of the hair will help keep your strands separate.
Braided Crown – The braid trend is clearly here to stay! The braided look that was most popular on the runway this year was the milkmaid braid. It’s a romantic hairstyle that’s perfect for showing off your gorgeous neckline! To wear this look, part your hair down the middle and braid both sections into two loose braids. Pull the braids to the crown of your head, crossing one over the other. Pull the ends towards the back of your head and secure with bobby pins and hair spray.
