How to Give Your Esthetician Clients Expert Advice

Esthetician with client

Everyone loves getting pampered with facials by their esthetician. But every esthetician will tell you that it’s even more important to take care of your skin after your appointment. Here are some tips you should give your esthetician clients about their skincare routine:

  • Give Products A Chance to Work

There are so many products out there nowadays, because skincare has become so trendy. You should advise your clients to introduce new products into their regime over time to allow them to work. A lot of younger women will see these new products on social media and immediately want to change up their routine. The best thing to do is to stick to one new product for a couple weeks. This way their skin will warm up to it and they can evaluate the product over the coming months. Products can take up to six weeks to really make a difference. It’s also important to remember that continued use is necessary to maintain the results. It takes commitment to get the results your clients want.

  • Feed Your Skin

Great skin comes from within! It is important that your clients eat nutrient rich foods to make sure they get the vitamins and minerals that they—and their skin—need. You could advise them to take a hair, skin, and nails vitamin as an addition to their diet. These can help prevent breakouts and boost the brightness of their skin. And Omega 3, consumed through what they eat or as a dietary supplement, is good for their body and skin and helps reduce inflammation. When their body is in sync, it’s likely that their skin will be too.

  • Cleanse, Cleanse, Cleanse

Suggest an effective, but gentle cleanser that will remove the day’s gunk, makeup, oil, and even dead skin cells. Make sure to customize your cleansing recommendations to the individual client and show them how to do it. Generally, a non-foaming cleanser is a good bet, as it won’t strip the skin of essential oils. Regular cleansing is key to healthy and smooth skin.

  • Stay Away from the Sun

Even if it’s fun to be in sun, warn your clients that it’s not good for their skin. It is the number one cause of aging skin—not to mention skin cancer! If your customers do choose to go out in the sun, remind them to apply sunscreen everywhere, even the often-neglected hands, neck and ears – especially since these areas are the first to show signs of age. It is easier to prevent signs of aging than it is to correct it.

  • Don’t Overcomplicate Skincare

If you only give your clients one piece of advice after every session, let it be this: don’t overcomplicate things. A simple routine for an at-home regimen will produce the best results. They don’t need fancy serums and a long and complicated skincare routine. When in doubt, keep it to a cleanser, exfoliator, toner, and a moisturizer. Anything else can be used for a treat, but it’s important to have a daily routine that will help your clients over the course of time.

As an esthetician, you want to make sure that the benefits you offer your clients don’t end with their time at the spa.
