How to Build Your Barbershop Culture
You passed the State Board Exam and earned your Barber license. Now it’s time to passionately pursue your career. You can make your own mark! Who do you want to be? Here’s what you need to do to enhance and build your barbershop culture:
Look the Part
If you want your future clients to trust you and your expertise, you need to live and breathe good grooming techniques. Show your current and further clients that you’re serious about being a barber and providing the very best service you can. No shaggy, uneven beards. Wherever you go, you’re a walking billboard for your brand so make sure to present yourself how you would want to be received by prospective clients.
Get Them In the Door
Before you can build a culture in your shop, you need to get the guys to come in. Put yourself and your talent out there –in the real and virtual world. Mostly everyone is on some form of social media these days; you should be too! Its ever-changing platforms are great places to find and share inspiration. You can upload video tutorials of new styles you’re trying in your shop and highlight your favorite style of the day. Before and after pictures are a great way to showcase your skills so your followers can see how you were able to transform someone’s look. As your talents grow, so will your reputation and your following.
Know Your Own Values
Before you can create a culture that people will want to be part of you have to decide what it’s going to be all about. Infuse who you are and what you care about into everything you do. Sure, the styles and services you provide are a part of that culture, but so is the music in the shop, the decor, and the specials you offer. What’s important to you?
Team With Great People
Whether you work for someone, rent a chair, or are lucky enough to have your own shop, surround yourself with people who complement you. Align yourself with positive people who want to provide clients with the very best service. And remember, you’re going to spend a whole lot of time with your coworkers; it helps if you like them. And, bonus: your clients will catch the vibe and feel the great energy. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of all that?
Build The Community
Be sure to let all your clients know what’s happening in the shop and in the industry. Keep them interested and involved every time they walk through the door. And social media isn’t just great for advertising; it’s a great well to build a virtual community. Set up social accounts on platforms like Facebook and Instagram and invite your clients to like and share.
