6 Must-Haves for Your Travel Cosmetic Bag

Whether you’re visiting exotic islands or snowy mountains, you’ll want to include a few essentials in your cosmetic bag. The trick is to pack just what you need, and exclude the extras. Here are 6 must-haves for your travel cosmetic bag:

1.       Mascara

Mascara makes your lashes look darker, longer and thicker and helps your eyes appear brighter. Choose a clump-free, waterproof mascara that will hold up well after a long flight or the touchdown on a hot, humid tropical island. Mascara is a big makeup item that takes up little space. It can even double as a liquid liner! Just dip an eyeliner brush into your mascara and apply it to your lids, halfway on the top and bottom to give your eyes a wide-open look.

2.       Eye shadow

Choose a single, favored palette with a few shade options to suit your mood and style. Pick colors that compliment your skin type and eye color. Add coppers, golds, and bronzes to transform your daytime look to a nighttime wow.

3.       Lip balm and gloss

Protect your lips and give them color at the same time. Include a couple of lipsticks, glosses or balms in your travel cosmetic bag. Make sure to choose those that contain moisturizers and SPF protection and apply 30 minutes before going out into the sun. Your lips contain less melanin than other areas of your skin and can easily burn from too much sun exposure. Sun damage can cause fine wrinkles around your lips and you definitely don’t want that!

4.       Compact hair brush

Instead of a full-size brush, opt for a compact hair brush. Brushing detangles the hair and distributes your natural oils to create a healthy shine. And it helps keep your tresses neat and looking good! Try a natural bristle brush to stimulate your hair roots and gently remove excess dirt and oils.

5.       Sunscreen

No matter the destination, be sure to include sunscreen in your travel cosmetic bag. Sunscreens can be especially expensive at tropical destinations and you don’t want to be caught without it. Choose one with SPF 30 and apply it daily. If you have acne-prone skin, you’ll want a separate sunblock for you face; a small tube will do just fine.

6.       BB Cream

BB cream is a blemish beauty balm that’s perfect for every beauty regimen. It’s a moisturizer, sunscreen, and concealer, all-in-one and will give you the protection, hydration, and healthy glow you want all day long.

If you’re flying and decide to bring your cosmetic bag as a carry on, check on the latest TSA restrictions. Liquid foundation, eyeliner, mascara, nail polish, balms, and perfumes cannot exceed 3.4 ounces and must fit in a one quart plastic bag.
