Summer Nail Designs You Can Do Yourself
Dreaming of stylish and fun summer nails but can’t find the time to go to the salon? Not a problem! You can try these top trends for summer nail designs yourself and look and feel like a million bucks:
Matte Polish
Matte nails are still trending but they can take a long time to achieve at the salon. Instead, make your own matte nail polish and give yourself an at-home matte manicure. How? Take clear polish and mix it with your favorite shade of eyeshadow. Combine enough powder to get your desired color and apply to your nails as you would any polish.
Sharpie Designs
Instantly transform your nails with a metallic sharpie marker—silver or gold! First apply your regular polish, but don’t use a top coat. Instead, take your metallic sharpie and design away! Try stars and stripes for the Fourth of July. Or sunshine and rainbows in shimmer and shine. Or geometric shapes that make a bold statement. Let the marker dry fully and then apply a clear top coat. Made a mistake? Not a problem; use a bit of rubbing alcohol on your nails to remove the sharpie. Note: You can only remove the sharpie if the top coat has not yet been applied.
Gemstone Glamour
Sauce up your nails with a little bling. Apply whatever type of polish you like and while it is still sticky, use a pair of tweezers to place fun jewels and gemstones onto the polish. Let the stones set and apply a protective coat of clear polish. Learn even more on how to bedazzle your nails.
Tattoo Art
Use temporary tattoos to make your nails look like you spent lots of hours and dollars at a salon. Start with a coat of base polish. Next, paint your nails a color that will make the tattoo pop. Make sure your nails are completely dry, then cut the tattoo into small pieces to fit your nail. Peel off the plastic on the tattoo and place the tattoo design-first onto your nail. Dampen the back of the tattoo with a wet cloth and gently press the tattoo with the cloth for about 30 seconds. You can peel the paper off your nail, leaving only the lovely design behind. Apply a top coat and you’re done!
Paint Splatter
Turn your nails into a work of modern art with this easy and fun technique for that summer beach party or BBQ. Apply a clear base coat and one layer of color. Once your nails are completely dry, take your “splatter” color and put it on a paper plate or piece of tinfoil. Take the bottom of a straw and pick up the paint. Bring the straw over your nail and blow into the straw, splattering the color on your nail. Once you’ve achieved your desired look, apply a top coat. Use a Q-tip in nail polish remover to get the excess splatter off your skin.
