Are You Air Drying Your Hair the Right Way?
Wait, you didn’t know you could be air drying your hair a wrong way? Well, you’re not alone. Here’s how to do it right so you don’t damage your hair or dull your look:
To Shampoo or Not?
Did you know that it isn’t good to wash your hair every day? When you shampoo your hair too often, you can dry out your roots and scalp, causing itching, flaking and even dandruff! The more you wash and dry your hair the more damage it causes. So the next time you’re in the shower skip the shampoo and opt for just conditioner. Apply the conditioner sparingly on the end of your strands. Let the product sit for a minute or two so it is completely absorbed. This will help the overall health of your hair so it will shine long after air drying your hair.
It’s All About the Comb
Once you have conditioned, apply a hair detangler to the ends of your hair and with a wide tooth comb, gently comb your hair—no pulling. Work tangles out with your fingers or the tines of the comb. Broken strands will cause split ends and frizz.
Towel Off
Don’t just rub your hair dry with any old towel or throw it up in a towel twist. You need a super absorbent towel that will suck up lots of water from your hair. And that towel turban can pull your roots and damage your hair so opt out. Instead take your towel and lightly pat dry the strands to get as much of the water out as you can. No need to toss your hair up. This way your hair won’t get tangled; after all you did just brush it.
Product Product Product
Your hair is towel dry, but not dry-dry. Now what? Depending on the look you want to achieve you will need to change your product accordingly. Use a texturizing spray or root lifter for more volume and waves. Choose an anti-frizz product to help tame those pesky flyaways. If you’re headed straight for bed even better. Put your hair in a loose braid or bun to get the beach waves of your dreams. The product will help your hair embrace its natural waves or get some extra volume as it dries.
Keep Your Hands Off
If you’re drying au natural, resist the urge to keep touching your hair to check its moisture level. And once it is dry, hands off! The oils from your hands aren’t good for your hair.
