How to Keep Your Salon Clients Coming Back
If you want a long and successful career in the beauty industry, you need to start building relationships with your clients right now. Satisfied customers can become loyal clients who tell their family, friends, and coworkers all about you! They’ll be happy and as your client base grows and grows, so will you.
Here are 5 ways to build that base, one happy client at a time:
Provide the best service you can. If you want to keep your clients coming back, it all starts with excellent customer service. You’ve got to master your craft and be knowledgeable about the current styles and trends. Begin right now by practicing and refining the cosmetology skills you already possess, but also be ready and willing to learn even more. Your clients don’t just want your talents behind the chair; they expect you to show them what’s hot and what’s not!

Listen to what they say. You can’t provide your clients with great service unless you really listen to what they have to say. Just because you think short hair would look really awesome on your client doesn’t mean they agree. Offer your expert advice, but do what your client wants. Then, make them feel great about their decision.
Give them an experience. To really build your clientele, don’t just provide your services, provide a wonderful and luxurious experience. Your clients come to the salon to get pampered and take a break from their busy lives. They trust you to help them look and feel their very best. From the moment your client walks in the door, let them know how special they are.
Show clients your appreciation. Show your clients you value them and really do want them to come back. Thank them with words and small gestures. Offer coupons, discounts and specials. Consider setting up loyalty and reward programs where your clients can earn added services and products. And always treat them with respect!
Follow-up and follow through. Encourage your clients to rebook their next appointment, but if they don’t, give them a friendly reminder call or email. Make notes about your clients so that the next time they come in, you’ll remember what you discussed previously and what they like and don’t like. This will personalize your client’s visit and make them feel like they’re something special –because they are!
