Relay for Life is a Huge Success

Salon Success Academy is proud of our fantastic students, staff, friends and family who made this year’s Relay For Life such a great success. With more than 80 team members participating in the June 7th 24-hour walkathon held at Guasti Regional Park in Rancho Cucamonga, we were able to exceed our fundraising goal –and we will continue to collect for the American Cancer Society throughout the month.

The Cut Out Cancer with Salon Success Academy team did a great job raising money and awareness in our fight against cancer. We also gave away an array of salon services to event participants. Our students painted dozens of faces, gave more than 50 back massages and manicures and even did eyebrow arches and lash applications.

Team co-captain Christina Belcher said she was proud of everyone who came out to support Salon Success Academy and Relay For Life.

“For the entire 24 hours, we had team members on the track walking,” said Christina. “And while we were offering services to others, we even took their places on the track.”

Salon Success Academy has made it an annual tradition of supporting Relay for Life with fundraising efforts before, during and after the event. They originally participated in the nationally sponsored walkathon when long-time employee Susan Turner took on the worthy cause. When Susan passed away in 2012 after waging her own battle with cancer, her family and friends at Salon Success Academy felt compelled to carry on Susan’s good work. Christina and April Neumann, another Salon Success Academy employee, are Susan’s sister and they are both proud to be a part of Relay For Life.

“Our own family and friends do this for Susie, but who doesn’t know someone who’s been touched by cancer?” asked Christina.

Co-captain April said she thought this year’s theme was a fitting tribute to her sister’s memory. Salon Success Academy tweaked the iconic “I Love Lucy” show of the 1950s to create “I Love Susie” t-shirts. Wearing their customized shirts, students, friends and family enjoyed a great day for a great cause. In their fundraising efforts, they sold homemade body and lip scrubs created by our own estheticians and homemade bread and cookies donated by a local bakery. They also held raffles and sold jewelry, blankets, candy, nachos, iced coffee, soda, and more.

“We’re honored to participate in such a great event,” said April. “This year, we far exceeded our fundraising goal, and our efforts will continue throughout the month.”

It’s not too late to donate to the Cut Out Cancer with Salon Success Academy team. We have a team page on the Relay for Life website and you can make contributions directly through the site.
